PPS is a thermoplastic resin with phenylene sulfide groups in its molecular backbone, known in English as polyphenylene sulfide (abbreviated as PPS).
PPS is a crystalline (55%-65% crystallinity), high-rigidity white powder polymer. It offers excellent heat resistance (continuous use temperature up to 240°C), mechanical strength, rigidity, flame retardancy, chemical resistance, electrical properties, and dimensional stability. It has superior wear resistance and anti-creep properties, with excellent flame retardancy and self-extinguishing properties, meeting UL94V-0 standards. It maintains good electrical performance even under high temperature and humidity. It has good flow properties and is easy to mold with minimal shrinkage or sink marks. It has good compatibility with various inorganic fillers. Reinforcement can enhance its physical, mechanical, and thermal properties (heat deflection temperature). Common reinforcing materials include glass fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber, and metal fiber, with glass fiber being the most common. Inorganic fillers include talc, kaolin, calcium carbonate, silica, molybdenum disulfide, etc.
PPS/PTFE, PPS/PA, and PPS/PPO alloys are commercially available. PPS/PTFE alloy improves the brittleness, lubricity, and corrosion resistance of PPS, while PPS/PA alloy is a high-toughness alloy.
